Message from the Director: April 2026

Woman smiling in a library, wearing a pink shirt. Bookshelves and blurred signs are visible in the background. Warm, inviting atmosphere.

A storied career comes to an end.

This month we say goodbye to John Marshall branch manager Deborah Cosby as she ends her 40-year career with Fauquier Public Library.

Throughout her tenure “she was brilliant and joyous and she believed that librarians contain the answers to everything.” Under her care, the branch library has become the heart of the Marshall community.

We’re throwing a party in her honor on April 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Marshall Community Center. Come wish her well as she moves on to a new beginning.

She will be missed.

More from those who love the library.

Bestselling author Sy Montgomery is our guest on April 29 for the 2026 Barbara and Keith Severin Lecture.  Ken Severin, their son writes, ”the Fauquier Public Library was a tremendous part of my parents’ life. They saw it as one of the things that makes living in Fauquier County special.  Sponsoring this lecture is a small way to keep their contribution going.”

Montgomery, best known for The Soul of an Octopus and The Good, Good Pig, has published 40 books for children and adults.  Her lecture will focus on what animals can teach people about persistence, passion, and love.

Persistence, passion and love. Sounds like Debbie, Barbara and Keith learned that lesson. We’re lucky they chose to share it with the library.

Director, Fauquier County Public Library
