This issue is packed with savings information on cars, appliances, mattresses, TVs, phones and much more. Here are some highlights.
Just in time for Summer CR has advice on “How to Fight Sun Damage.” Did you know that “about 80% of skin aging is caused by the sun’s ultraviolet rays?” Sunscreens can help protect your skin from those damaging rays. CR reviews some common misconceptions about sun exposure in: “Sunscreen Myths, Busted!” Read the “Take Cover” ratings to scope out the “best- and worst- performing lotions, sprays, and facial lotions.”
CR has started a new initiative called “Aging & Accessibility”
“dedicated to bringing you vetted gear and expert advice for every need…” Read more about products that “can make life more comfortable and easier to navigate – and help you maintain your independence.” CR’s “Guide to a User-Friendly Life” covers such topics as how to choose hearing aids or how to buy a lift chair. In addition to the testing done in CR’s labs, the evaluations in this article are provided by “a team of people who depend on these products every day.”
High blood pressure issues are associated with aging but can also be a problem for younger folks. CR reports that “nearly half of the adults in the U.S. have it, including about 70 percent those 60 and older.” And they add that it is difficult to get a reliable blood pressure reading in the doctor’s office. Find out why “Monitoring at Home Is Critical” and learn how to bring your numbers down. CR explains that by eating right, reducing stress and staying active, you can control your blood pressure, often without the need for medications. Read “Eat Your Way to Better Numbers” for some great diet suggestions.
Whenever it does rain again… the grass will grow and we’re going to need to power up those lawn mowers. Are you in the market for a new one, or would you like to see how your current mower stacks up? Be sure to check out CR’s article on mowers covering walk-behind and ride-on mowers, including gas and battery powered options. Don’t forget to put on that sunscreen before you go out to mow!
