New Library Director Named

The Library Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Dawn J. Sowers has accepted the position as library director. She begins her duties on June 18, 2026.

"I knew I wanted to be a librarian when I began working as a page, shelving books in the children's section of my small-town library more than 40 years ago. The opportunity to serve as director of Fauquier Public Library is the culmination of a lifelong dream. I am excited to continue my service to the Fauquier community in my new role," said Mrs. Sowers.

Mrs. Sowers has extensive public library experience. After working in other library systems for 10 years, she was hired by Fauquier Public Library as a youth services librarian in 1998. She became head of public services in 2000.

"The library board is confident Mrs. Sowers will provide the leadership necessary to continue the excellent service the community has come to expect and enjoy," added Lawrie Parker, Library Board Chair.

During her 28-year tenure at Fauquier Public Library, Mrs. Sowers has overseen day-to-day operations of three library branches and has been an active participant in planning and project development. She has cultivated partnerships with community organizations and other county departments.

Under her guidance, the library’s service to the community has grown and flourished.

Mrs. Sowers replaces Maria Del Rosso, who retired earlier this month after 35 years as library director.

Mrs. Sowers graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University with Bachelor of Arts in History, and Master of Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina. She completed Leadership Fauquier in 2017 and later served as chairman of the Leadership board.
