Explore Your Family History

October is Family History Month, a great opportunity to talk about and explore your family's story.

Fauquier Public Library has numerous tools to help research your family history.

Start your research with Ancestry Library Edition, the world's largest collection of family records and resources (available only at the library). In addition to the vast collection of census, vital and immigration records, pictures and stories, Ancestry Library Edition includes tips and tricks, arranged by topic,  to aid in your search.

Can’t make it to the library? HeritageQuest includes court and legal documents, directories, photos and maps plus unique resources such as the Freeman’s Bank Records.

For those whose family roots are right here in Virginia, visit the Virginiana Room, located in the Warrenton central library. There you will find materials related to state and local history and genealogy, including census records, Fauquier County records and local newspapers on microfilm.

If you would rather explore other people's roots, check out All in the Family: Family Dynasties, a collection of movies and books about famous families and dynasties - from John Quincy Adams to the Von Trapps!

Access is free with a Fauquier Public Library card
